The idea of writing this post is adapted from New York Times. Who says that you can't get anything below $300,000 for the area? Well, it turns out that there are quite a number of active listings in DC that falls within the search criteria. I think it all comes down to where you want to live and what is your comfort level.
What we're going to do is to look at our local market, i.e. Washington DC and Northern Virginia. Data is gathered using information provided by MRIS, all the properties listed here is randomly picked.
WASHINGTON DC
There are at least 565 properties on the market with an average of $232,923.
WHAT: Townhouse listed at $264,900

The information from MRIS, shows that Northern Virginia that incl. Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington and Fairfax, there are 1112 properties on the market with an average of $255,300. Most of the properties on the market under $300K in NVa -- are condos.
